One last destination unknown

Anyone heard of the Brenner Tunnel? It’s a huge tunnel system intended for cargo, being drilled under Brenner pass that connects Austria with Italy. Like huge. Like 350 billion euros huge. One of Justin’s fellow Fulbright Scholars who is an engineer and working for one of the contracted companies building the tunnel, managed to arrange a last minute tour for us.

One very small section of the tunnel support system for the smaller exploratory tunnel we visited. 1 of the 3 tunnels being made.

There is a really great website (that translates into English) that has photos, imagery and information in case you want to know a bit more. You can find it if you search for “Brenner Tunnel.”

Notice the red cutting wheels in this photo.

We learned all about the project as a whole, his company’s contracted portion of the project and then got to go see the progress first hand.
