Some of life’s best moments

It was over 15 years ago when we rolled in to Missoula, Montana for the first time, a decision that was at least partially based on how cool it sounds to say you live there, and partially because Justin got into their MA program in philosophy. It was in Missoula all those many years ago that our paths crossed with some of our favorites, Melissa and Joshua.
They are artists and teachers and with our instant connection, their friendship is some of the best you could ever hope for in a lifetime. They are like family and although it’s not very romantic to say it, Melissa and I have always agreed that spending time together is just “easy.”
Picking up where we left off, no matter the number of months or years, the four of us settle right back into our normal rhythm of friendship. Pouring out our hearts; our struggles and successes; our frustrations and life’s celebrations. Mel and I basically had a long conversation that spanned three days through doing the dishes, walking the fields, folding laundry, playing ping pong and cards, prepping dinner and lunch, watching the kids play soccer, and sometimes just simply sitting on the porch. I think we spent a full 20 minutes in this continued conversation with me standing on the bottom step in the foyer and her in the hallway on the second floor.
Did we eat a beautiful meal, yes of course. They are terrific cooks. Did we literally picnic in the middle of the living room floor with left overs and a jar of pickles? Yep. We did that too. If you asked us what we saw and did, well there’s not a whole lot to report. Just a string of beautiful moments with some dear friends. A refreshing few days for sure.
