We were lucky to have the Meiers join us for our D.C. stint. The guys left early so that Justin could make his conference talk and the rest of us followed later. We visited the Spy Museum and the Museum of Natural History. We walked around the White House and had a really great tour of the Capitol. We also visited the D.C. Zoo. Eli and Aeneas are both naturalists and this was an especially big treat for them. We ate really great food and drank too many margaritas. It was so fun to have them with us in the city.

I handed Eli my camera, gave him a few tips and made him photographer of the day which I find funny (and bold) considering his Dad is a professional photographer and really knows what he’s doing. He’s working on his steady hand and clear photos but he has a pretty good eye for composition. This kid oozes with compassion for all things living. So at first he was going to take photos of all the homeless people he came across and had plans to post them online for people to adopt in order to provide their basic needs. We put the cabosh on that (he’s too young to understand the idea behind photo release forms) but there were hundreds of photos of our adventures including total strangers that he managed to strike up conversations with along the way.
