We planned a destination unknown for one of the nights in Salzburg. The boys were very excited about this as it was the first time they would get to dress up for something special in their new blazers that Nana, my grandmother, bought them. They are proud of these coats! We called them Brad and Leonardo the whole night.
We had a 3 course 18th Century meal at the oldest known restaurant (AD 803) in Europe, St. Peter’s. St. Peter’s was a restaurant that Mozart frequented often with his family and colleagues and the food served were specific things he mentioned in his letters and typical fair of the time. Between courses, we were treated to performances by fantastic musicians and singers with some excerpts of Mozart’s operas.
I will brag on them a little because they totally deserve it. We’ve talked often about manners especially at a fancy dinner, and so we’ve been working up to this sort of thing for months. They introduced themselves with eye contact and a strong hand shake, sat up tall the entire time, and contributed to the conversation of our table. They were rapt with attention during all of the performances. The table behind us caught me totally off guard when they stopped me on the way out to tell me, “I must be so proud. They behaved so well and actually listened and enjoyed the performances.” I owe their appreciation for classical music to Gabi, their piano teacher. Why yes! I am quite proud! Thank you!
The singers interacted with the audience throughout the performances and we told Aeneas that the woman had her eye on him. He was so embarrassed but when she came to pull he and Patrick to the front, he had the look of “I get this all the time in my sports coat.” When he returned to the table he spent the next 5 min straightening and restraightening his tie. It was pretty funny.
This is a video of their fancy drinks. It warranted a video because it was like nothing we’d seen before!
The whole night was fantastic. The music was amazing, the location unforgettable and the food delicious. And we had great English speaking company at our table to boot. I definitely recommend it if you ever visit Salzburg.
