Love Sunday

After arriving back in the states, we were lucky enough to travel around on the weekends to see family before heading cross country with a few stops for Justin’s sabbatical research and a philosophy conference. Our first stop was Augusta to see the Wade women. We attended Nana’s church and were there just in time to experience “Love Sunday”, an annual tradition of balloon grams gifted between parishioners in celebration of Valentine’s day. Let’s just say, they don’t bother to blow up all of Nana’s for fear they would never see her again. She’s quite a popular lady!

We came back to the house for our traditional Sunday dinner of roast, mack and cheese, lima beans, rice, and sweet tea just like old times.

The boys managed to dig into Papa’s old garage and find all sorts of fun things to play with during our visit. He would have been so proud to see them enjoy his space although I’m not sure grinding down his hammers would have been that amusing to him! “But Papa, we’re cleaning them up for you!”

Augusta has some really nice bike paths along what they call “the canal” and the Savannah River. We rented bikes one afternoon to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. A detour took us rattling down a single track path with our super heavy rented cruiser bikes that resulted in Kayla wrecking twice and perhaps crying a little…oh wait…I’m not supposed to mention that, nevermind. The kids loved it, I was in heaven, and Kayla hated life for 2.6 miles. I forbid my own mother and her sister to follow us or else we would have been hauling three bodies out of the woods! Good call, self!

On our way out of town, we headed up to visit my grandmother’s brother Jack and his wife Lana. Its always fun seeing the three siblings together again (Betty, Jack and Barbara). But getting a good photo of these three is as bad as taking pictures of small children. They don’t look at the camera, won’t stop talking and someone always has their eyes closed!
