We celebrated the New Year early with a special bottle of champagne sent by my Dad and a Sacher Torte from the famous Hotel Sacher courtesy of Zeb. Exhausted from a week of skiing and touring, only Zeb, Carrie and I had enough left to venture out to the old town to see the fireworks and to watch the countdown. With live bands, DJs and a fun atmosphere it was a fun party. Very organized and dignified like you’d expect in Austria.
Zeb and Carrie needed one last beer and sausage to top off their trip. And then we settled along the river to watch the show. The river and buildings were lit and the fireworks were amazing. It must be legal to buy, sell and light fireworks from anywhere in the city because there were explosions everywhere leading up to the countdown. The rest of the family watched the fireworks from the back porch through droopy eyelids and were out cold when we returned only 20 min past midnight. We all crashed hard since the family left for Munich on the 6:10 train the following morning. They made their way back to the States and we made our way back to bed for a few more hours. What a great time!
