Innsbruck!

We have arrived! And how happy we are to have a place to stay put for a while. The mountains got closer and taller and the valley skinnier from Salzburg to Innsbruck. We have spent the last few days getting settled in to this new city life and are starting to get things figured out.
Now I knew that Justin was bringing books but I had no idea how many. Kill him! Thank goodness we left bags in Vienna during our travels and only had to drag these bricks through three cities instead of a dozen or more.
We couldn’t be happier with our flat. It’s modern and clean and beautiful. It feels very much like our place on campus in Animas Hall, except much bigger. We have a proper kitchen that is very well stocked and plenty of space for city living. The kids share a room and have already “decorated” it with their little souvenirs from our trip thus far. There is a shared patio off of the kitchen with a slim view of the mountains, and the front windows overlook the street. The windows do a remarkable job of keeping the flat quiet. I love snuggling up in bed with all of the hustle and bustle going on in the streets outside. Either the cities are getting smaller or I am finally getting my feet under my and becoming more comfortable with city life. The kids aren’t the only ones learning life skills on this trip.
We live right above a mediocre grocery store, which is great for last minute things like oil, butter and eggs and a bit of produce and honestly it’s like getting an extra turn in the game of life. How convenient!
I have learned to make a proper cup of coffee (cafe con leche) with the espresso maker and an imersion blender, two things I don’t have back home. We’ve registered with the local police, something you have to do within 3 days of moving to Innsbruck, found everyone’s schools and met with the principles and deans, bought school supplies for one kid, been to the grocery store 5-6 times, opened a bank account, figured out what we need for public transport and ski passes (although we haven’t purchased them yet), and even attended the local late night shopping spree night where all of the stores around the square stay open until 10 pm, all in the last 4 days. We’ve knocked a bunch of things off our list I’d say.
Cheers to the beginning of our living in Austria for the term!
