Endless possibilities

DSC04477.jpg

This sabbatical year of traveling has opened up an excuse to try our hand at Air BnB, a site that allows people to offer their houses, rooms and flats to travelers. I have friends that have used it in the past as well as serve as hosts in their own place and have had loads of success. (Thanks Lindsay and Erik!) The coolest thing about it is that you can get out of the ordinary places to stay. In Oxford we did just that and stayed on a canal boat.

Our host, Alan lives on another boat in the canals and said he just bought a third boat to try to refurbish into another Air BnB listing. He also runs an organic bacon and sausage food cart right outside of the train station, so upon our arrival, he served us with what was called Baps. Veggie Bap, Bacon Bap and a Breckie Bap (breakfast sandwich).

The beds were super comfortable, we had a separate room from the kids and it was lovely to light candles and have picnics outside on the rear of the boat for dinner and happy hour. We had wifi and lights and a well stocked kitchen. It even had hot water for showers! When you ran the engine, that is. It was super skinny but 18 meters long. That’s close to 60 feet!

We awoke to the commuter “traffic” of children’s voices on their way to school, bikes, quacking ducks and ringing church bells as we were located on a bike and foot path along the canal.

Here is the official tour from Patrick.
