Door to (almost) door skiing

Some European countries have really high taxes but their public transportation and infrastructure is unbelievable. We live in a metropolitan city center with concerts, opera, theatre, 3 story cinemas, shopping malls, an IKEA(!) an enormous selection of world cuisine, a train station that will take you anywhere on the continent and an airport to help you hop over oceans. And yet, you can access the woods and skiing literally from your doorstep without the hassle of driving in inclement weather in less than 30 min. Although all of our skiing up until now has been done using public buses and trains, last Saturday we figured out how to use the tram to get to the ski areas. Here is what our day looked like.

We caught the tram a block from our house and rode it through a beautiful winter wonderland up to a nearby village. Walked to the base area from the tram station.

We skied in low visibility but got to warm up in this glass igloo for hot chocolate.

We skied through this untracked field right down to the tram station

Totally unplanned, we managed to hit the station 8 min before the tram showed up!

And the caught the tram back to a block from our house. Seriously. What the heck?!?
