#18: Axamer Lizum

dsc06819

Our last new Austrian ski area. #18 in all! Axamer Lizum overlooks the city of Innsbruck and is accessed by a very long and steep funicular car. It was the location of several of the events in the 1960 and 1974 Olympics.

Austria could really use some snow but it warmed up enough to soften the snow up this particular day. And at the very bottom, it was very much like spring skiing. Even though we are only here for half the season, I think we skied every condition possible as if we stayed through the whole thing.

It was a beautiful day to be above the blanket of fog that covered Innsbruck.

Although we rode the ski bus to get there, we figured out how to cross over to Muttereralm and ski back down to ride the #1 tram back to a block from our house. Just like locals!

Seemingly right next door, I am still amazed at how very different all of the resorts are from each other. I think we have seen Innsbruck from above from at least 5 different mountains.
