Several days ago, my host family and I took a day trip to a famous German Monument called Der Hermannskenkmal (meaning the Arminius Monument). The monument was built in the mid 19th century and it honors Arminius's triumph in the battle of the Teutoburg Forest against Rome in 9 AD. The statue roughly stands in the area in which the battle actually took place.
Apart from just looking at it below, we were also able to climb to the balcony and see the view. Around the monument there are many forested hills and small towns. It was a nice change to see some hills after being in such flat terrain for so long. When there's no elevation, there's nothing to climb up to see the view so this was a nice switch up.
After our adventures at the Arminius Monument, we headed over to an aviary for just birds of prey. The place was called Adlerwarte Berlebeck and it contained a variety of different exhibits with birds of prey from around the world. At the end, there was even a show where several species of birds came out did tricks with the trainers.
Hopefully, I'll get the chance to go on more outings like this because it gets me exposed to more of Germany.
